Coronavirus COVID-19: Found therapy to avoid hospitalization
The large number of infected people made it impossible to hospitalize all people at the first symptoms of coughing or mild fever.
One of the best strategies seems to us the one mentioned in the Panorama article (Link in the picture above) of which we give you a summary with our considerations, inviting you to read the article for further information.
Official indications suggested that family doctors should only give Paracetamol to patients, advising against other treatments.
This choice was also underlined by Professor Massimo Galli of the Sacco hospital in Milan.
A choice that, in our opinion, can only have results if the symptoms are very mild.
A group of about 100 family doctors developed an intervention protocol comparing themselves with each other and with hospital doctors, as well as referring to different studies and Chinese experience.
This therapy has performed very well with symptoms disappearing between two and six days.
During treatment, patients measured temperature, pressure and saturation three times a day and communicated it to their doctor.
This is not a DIY therapy as the doctor must follow its evolution and assess the patient's condition even before the start of therapy.
In particular, it may be discouraged in patients with heart problems, so the cooperation of the family doctor is essential.
All the many patients treated like this did not require hospitalization and returned to their normal life very quickly. Quarantine is clearly required after symptoms are demise.
A great achievement achieved thanks to these doctors, we mention for brevity Dr. Andrea Mangiagalli and Dr. Antonio Gobbi. The Italian Pharmaceutical Agency (Aifa) has now agreed to the use of chloroquine.
On 19 April 2020, the Italian Federation of Physicians of General Medicine published a procedure that follows exactly this pattern.
