Coronavirus-COVID-19: Eliminate the virus from the floors
All dirt and dust settles on the floor.
Viruses and bacteria are unable to fly, but are carried by steam droplets and dust particles.
These can travel several meters and settle on a passing person, or even be breathed in.
Most of them, however, settle on the floor and furniture.
From here, the air movement of a door or of a person passing can lift these particles again and put them back into the air in the room.
For this reason it is very important to clean and sanitize floors.
Coronavirus-COVID-19: When cleaning floors you must avoid two very dangerous things
• Avoid raising the dust and helping to spread it again in the environment.
Quick broom movements are to be avoided. Also avoid lifting the broom inappropriately.
This is extremely dangerous especially in reception environments, such as hospitals, hotels, rest homes, resorts, etc. where different families live in each room and the cleaning is done by staff of the structure.
But it is also to be avoided in homes.
The bacteria in the bathroom should not be brought to the kitchen.
Bacteria in a bedroom should not be shared with those in the dining room.
Coronavirus-COVID-19: how to clean the floor
To avoid these two drawbacks we suggest:
1. Do not use the broom, but always a cloth moistened with disinfectant.
This prevents the dust from rising because it is moistened and captured by the rag.
2. If the room is very dirty, use several rags for the same room.
Clean the room many time, every time with a new clean rag.
Never reuse the same rag. Once dirty, throw it in a bucket and then be washed in the washing machine.
3. For each room use clean rags, machine washed.
4. For cleaning use pure detergent. The antibacterial properties depend on the concentration.
A diluted disinfectant is no longer a disinfectant.
5. If necessary, wipe with a dry cloth after cleaning.
6. Never use tools such as broom or snot as the broom lifts and retains dust and both the broom and snot are not washable at 60 degrees whenever they are dirty.
Make sure you have one or two clean rags for each room you need to clean.
Clean all rooms and then immediately wash the rags in the washing machine, at least 60 degrees, better 90.
7. We also do not recommend the use of vacuum cleaners, except in special cases.
The vacuum cleaner generally cleans well, but the problem is the dust that passes the filters coming out.
There are vacuum cleaners that have two or three filters at the outlet, but as far as we know, no one guarantees that no viruses are sprayed.
8. The best solution is those rectangular tools to which you attach a special cloth, as in the figure.
Get a dozen cloths. Use one and when it is dirty or change the room, put it to wash, then use another clean one.
At the end wash the clothes in the washing machine at least 60 degrees.
Make continuous movements along them on the floor so as never to lift the rag and to always move it in the same direction.
They must overlap slightly so as not to leave strips where you have not passed.
When the rag is dirty, replace it, possibly without touching it.
If the room is not very dirty, one pass is sufficient, otherwise you will have to repeat the cleaning with a new rag.
Eventually you can then pass a dry rag to remove the residues of disinfectant thus avoiding that the smell remains too long.
This gives more shine to the floor.
The ideal is to clean the floor at least once a day, but never wait more than three days.
If someone enters with shoes, or if you cook or eat, then immediately clean the floor to avoid that residues of dirt remain which could contaminate the rest of the house.
